In Final Fantasy X, the sphere grid is the new system used to level up your characters. It is a diffrent approach from the diffrent Final Fantasys yet, this one one of the easier systems to use.

The sphere grid uses spheres of diffrent types to raise diffrent attributes of a character and teach various abilities. Any character can raise their attributes or learn a new abilities, yet characters are more skilled in diffrent abilites.

Locks - When you first recieve the sphere grid each character has their own section on the sphere grid. Although, as the game progresses you can gain diffrent "locks". These unlock the limitations on the a characters section. Therefore, the character advancement is limitless!

Ability Points/Sphere Levels - Whenever you defeat an enemy, you collect AP, or ability points. When enough AP has been collected, you can gain sphere levels. This allows your character to move a certain number of spaces on the sphere grid, or backwards if you wish. This is extremly important! If you do not switch your characters into battle often then they will not recieve any AP, which results in making your character very weak compared to the others. Also, do not forget to level up your character whenever you achieve a sphere level! The first time I played FFX, I did this and trust me... its not a good thing. I ended up starting a new game because my characters were too weak, but if you level right when you gain a sphere level, you will be fine!

Sphere Nodes - Not sure how to use the spehre grid? Its okay! After you know how, its simple to use it!After you move a character's marker to a new location on the Sphere Grid, press X again. Now, selet the "Use" command, and a window with all your spheres will appear. Use the sphere that you have collected. Some will be available (high-lighted in white) and some will not (blackened out), it just depends where your nodes are currently placed in the sphere grid. As you proceed in the sphere grid diffrent nodes will become available to you.
